Zyanna Melada Trio - Album Release Show: “Dance of the Dragonfly” is a queer love letter to young and old listeners in their journeys of self acceptance. In many cultures, Dragonflies exemplify growth, transformation, self awareness and embracing your own personal power. Being openly black and queer even in 2024 is viewed as a threat. Racism and Homophobia is fear. Existing in a reality that de-centers validation from men is “preposterous”. Individuals in power and many parts of society actively choose to sit comfortably in their ignorance. Acceptance starts from within, and liberation starts with community. The project features the Zyanna Trio — with drummer Dae Bryant and keyboardist/pianist Davasate Phelps. There are special features of a handful of Portland’s best jazz musicians in the scene — Nicole McCabe (saxophone), Adriana Wagner (trombone) & Noah Simpson (trumpet). The project also features Portland artist/vocalist Jai Baby and Multi-Instrumentalist Tiana Jimenez-Srisook.
