Picante performs at McCoy Park
Picante was Founded in 2012 by trumpeter and current band leader Bryant Allard. This 7 piece ensemble includes some of the finest musicians in the Portland area performing both traditional afro cuban music and a fusion of latin jazz. Their repertoire includes the music of Pancho Sanchez, Tito Puente, Chucho Valdez, Carlos Federico, Dextor Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Wes Montgomery, as well as original music composed and arranged by Bryant Allard and Catarina New Martin. Audiences love Picante for its diversity of music and fiery latin rhythms. Picante has performed for many events, private and public, in the Portland area including Jimmy Maks, Cubanisimo Winery, Ponzi Winery, Maryhill Winery, The Deepwood Wine and Jazz festival,The Oregon Coast Jazz Party in Newport, The Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, Arrivederci’s, The Five-0-Three, Farmers Market in Bend, the Shute Park Concert series, Sandy Summer Sounds series, and more…

Located in the New Columbia housing development, this park was named in honor of Bill and Gladys McCoy, African-American political leaders who brought attention to the issues of minority and low-income people in north Portland. Gladys McCoy was the first African-American to serve on the Portland School Board in 1970 and as a Multnomah County commissioner from 1979-1984. She was elected as county chairwoman in 1986. Bill McCoy was the first African-American to be elected to the Oregon Legislature in 1973. His senate district covered north Portland and much of northeast Portland.
