Jack Radsliff has proven himself to be one of the most in demand guitarists in the Pacific Northwest. In Portland, Radsliff can be heard frequently playing in bands led by Chuck Israels, Ron Steen, Michael Raynor, Alan Jones, Christopher Brown, Cyrus Nabipoor, George Colligan, Kerry Politzer, Galen Clark, Dan Balmer, Idit Shner, Kathleen Hollingsworth, and Torrey Newhart: a veritable who’s who of Oregon’s jazz musicians. In addition to his steady work around Portland, last year Jack had the opportunity to work as sideman to Jonathan Pinson, Greg Ward, Domo Branch and Charlie Brown; finish his upcoming record “Barefoot” featuring Randy Porter, Todd Sickafoose and Alan Jones (PJCE, summer 2024); and tour extensively with Ian George, Cyrus Nabipoor and his own trio, with more to come in 2024. Jack’s playing can be heard on more than a dozen records from bandleaders including Tony Glausi, Martina DaSilva and Cyrus Nabipoor. He also has two records under his own name; “Migration Patterns” (2017) and “Barefoot” (2024). The Jack Radsliff Trio will be touring the music from “Barefoot” up and down the west coast Summer 2024. Follow Jack on instagram (@JackRadsliff) to see where he’s playing next.
Early Show - Christopher Brown 'Behind The Scene' - $20
PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION OF SHOW PROGRAMMING - THIS IS LARGELY EDUCATIONAL - NO FOOD OR DRINK WILL BE PROVIDED
In an effort to create meaningful culture building moments within a Jazz context for high school and college aged musicians (as well as their band instructors), drummer/bandleader Christopher Brown will host an ongoing series entitled “Behind the Scene” with his quartet, where they'll pull back the veil of mystery that often shrouds the learning process for most students and teachers. And what will separate this event from any other like it is that it’ll combine the Jam session and clinic experience into one epic memory maker. Throughout this event the audience will have an opportunity to electronically submit music pdf's to a cloud source for Christopher's band to access and cast to a screen for all to see. And the benefit of this is so the audience can observe how (and how fast) the band is capable of answering their questions. As for the other two pillars of this event, the audience will get to not only hear his group perform their own music, but they'll get to experience what it's like to sit in with such a band in front of their peers with this level of musical support. 1:00 - 1:30 PM — Intro & Opening Performance Featuring the Christopher Brown Quartet: John Nastos (Alto Sax), Greg Goebel (Keyboard), Garrett Baxter (Bass), Christopher Brown (Drums) 1:30 - 2:30 PM — Music Submissions + Q&A This section will be dedicated to the electronic submission of music pdf's to a cloud source by the audience, which Christopher's band will have access to casting to a screen for all to observe the speed with which they're capable of troubleshooting the audience's questions. 2:30 - 4:00 PM — Jam Session While the first two sections will indeed be a value-add for the audience, the real learning will take place once members of the audience hit the stage. So while it's one thing to play with one's peers, it's another to play with musicians who are much further along. So this will be a great opportunity for the audience to know what it feels like to play alongside musicians that are of the caliber of Christopher Brown's Quartet. The mission of Montavilla Jazz is to support and strengthen local music culture and enrich our community by showcasing the best of Portland jazz. Learn more at montavillajazz.org. Since this event is expected to sell out, you’ll want to get your tickets here for this first of its kind experience, as there's no guarantee that space will be available for purchase at the door.
