Coming off the heels of pianist/composer Mathis Picard's new album Heat Of The Moment on La Reserve records, the Mathis Picard Trio (where Picard is joined by Parker McAllister on bass & Joe Dyson on bass) continue their national release tour with two special shows at The 1905 in Portland, OR, November 10th & 11th, 2023. Heat Of The Moment is a project rooted in Picard’s search for the sonic connections between healing and presence within a world facing many challenges including that of climate change & justice. Inviting both the trio and listener on a unique musical journey, this project paints a joyous portrait of the musical community that the pianist has built over a decade in The United States, whist bringing Picard's newest compositions to the forefront. Mathis Picard, born May 30th, 1995, is a French-Malagasy pianist, composer, producer, and bandleader who currently resides in New York City. Rooted in the tradition of live acoustic performance while incorporating the latest technology, Mathis creates his own musical style that is influenced by his multinational background. Mathis, who began playing the piano at the age of 3, was immediately passionate about music's healing quality and now focuses on sharing that passion globally. Mathis currently leads a solo project, a trio project and his orchestra, "The Sound Orchestra". Mathis has had the honor of working with artists such as Ron Carter, Lillias White, Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Lee Ritenour, Daniel J Watts, DJ Kindness, Braxton Cook, Veronica Swift, Etienne Charles, Cyrille Aimee & more.

Corydrums, 3rown, and Yuck is a trio comprised of 3 young, creative and experienced musicians who bring something fruitful to every performance. Come see the 3 dabble in improvised contemporary jazz with elements of hip hop, rnb and soul. Coming off a tour with MonoNeon, 3rown (Charlie Brown III) we are glad to welcome him back with the spirit of the 1905.

Plus special guests Dae Bryant is from Harlem. NYC. Dae is an individual who believes that music is the true non binary and the true transcendence of tangible language. They have already found their space in their 4 months of being in Portland playing with musicians such as George Colligan and Bepresentartgroup. Getting their undergraduate degree in Psychology and the current Graduate Teachers Assistant of Jazz Studies at Portland State University. Dae’s goal in their time here is to create space for all our subjectives to thrive and coexist through the medium of music and specifically the influences of Black American Music.

In addition to keeping a finger on the pulse of the local scene, The 1905 has hosted internationally recognized musicians such as 5 time Grammy award-winner Antonio Sanchez, and Jazz greats like Ralph Peterson Jr.
