HE TIPTONS SAXOPHONE QUARTET & DRUMS are an internationally renowned all-female saxophone quartet with drums, celebrating over 30 years as a band. Formed in 1988 and originally based in Seattle, the members now live on the West and East coasts as well as in the Midwest. They create some of the freshest sounds on the jazz/world/pop music scene today with their solid instrumental and vocal talent, and are regularly featured at music festivals throughout Europe and North America.  The ensemble is comprised of powerful saxophonists, all leaders of their own renowned projects. Joining founder and Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame member Amy Denio (alto sax, clarinet, voice) and co-leader Jessica Lurie (soprano, alto, tenor sax, voice) are Sue Orfield (tenor sax, voice), Tina Richerson (baritone saxophone, voice), and a rotating cast of virtuosic drummers from the US and Europe.

The band takes its name in honor of Billy Tipton, a female-born saxophonist who lived their life as a man in the 20th century to realize their dreams as a professional musician. Like Billy, each of the Tiptons has developed their own original and eclectic musical spin and approach, which create much more than “just” a saxophone quartet. "The Tiptons blow up a mess of Balkan, Second Line, and carnival-esque lines, joyful, wry, and well traveled … “ (The Seattle Stranger). Their ‘world soul’ sound explores micro-Big Band to Gospel, Bluegrass to Balkan, whimsical Chamber Jazz to Nocturnal Funk and Free Improvisation. On Friday January 10th at the Royal Room in Seattle, they will be performing a brand new repertoire of works for their newest recording project, Wabi-Sabi, to be released March 2020.

THE QUADRAPHONNES are passionate about the saxophone, it's characteristics and possibilities. The Quadraphonnes are adventurous! These strong, talented, ladies break the boundaries of the saxophone quartet with their mighty chops, tantalizing grooves, soaring solos and dynamic vocals. Covering a variety of musical styles from jazz-funk-pop, to avant-garde, gypsy-punk and classical, the quads put on a great show!

This will be a meeting of mighty forces and an experience not to be missed.

21 and over.
