Sunday, December 2, 2018 - 7:30pm to 9:30pm

PDX Jazz customarily closes its annual season in recognition of a significant milestone by members of the Portland jazz community. Each December we have honored legacies ranging from Andrew Hill to The Beatles, Chet Baker, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, and Dexter Gordon.

On December 2, the classic collaboration between Bobby Hutcherson and Harold Land will be celebrated with a performance featuring Mike Horsfall, John Nastos, Gordon Lee, Jonathan Lakey and Alan Jones. The concert titled “A New Shade of Blue” is named after one of Harold’s definitive solo albums that also included Buster Williams, Bill Henderson, Billy Hart and James Mtume. Their recorded collaboration began 50 years ago on the obscure yet gorgeous album The Peacemaker,  inspiring PDX Jazz Artistic Director, Don Lucoff to conceive this concert.

This Golden Anniversary For Portland Only concert will cover material ranging from their studio and live sessions under their own names, co-led sessions, and as part of The Timeless All-Stars heard on Blue Note, Cadet, Mainstream, Muse, Theresa, Timeless, and Enja Records. Stay tuned for further announcements that will recognize the musical prowess of Bobby Hutcherson as 2019 marks the 80th birthday of Blue Note Records.
