Violinist James Anderson has been hailed by critics as a violinist "who bucks tradition," a "world class violinist, improviser, and composer," and "the most swinging violinist in Colorado." A Fort Collins, Colorado native and violinist since age five, James is at home in a number of musical arenas including classical, jazz, tango, bluegrass, and rock, to name a few. After graduating from high school in 2003, James continued his music studies at the University of Northern Colorado with a violin scholarship. While at UNC, James became an active performer on the Colorado Front Range - performing more that 100 concerts of all types every year.
After graduating with honors, James was accepted to the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England for graduate studies. While in England, James became a regular on the vibrant London jazz scene while studying alongside some of the world's finest classical performers such as the Belcea String Quartet and the London Symphony Orchestra. James has been featured in concert halls around the globe including London's Wigmore and Barbican Halls, and the Sala Mozart in Zaragosa, Spain.
James has performed with some of world's greatest fiddlers such as Mark O'Connor, Doug Kershaw, Christian Howes, Alex Hargreaves, and Darol Anger; has performed with tango legends Pablo Ziegler, Hector del Curto, Pedro Giraudo, Gustavo Casanova, Victor Lavallen, Pablo Agri, and Pablo Estigarribia and has collaborated with such artists as Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Marcia Ball, Fyfe Dangerfield, Carolyn Wonderland, Grant Gordy, Bruce Adolphe (aka The Piano Puzzler). Anderson has recorded for both film and television including the soundtrack to the major motion picture "Bernie" starring Jack Black, FX's "Archer," and NBC's "Smash"; and has been a soloist and chamber musician featured with orchestras and chamber music festivals around the country. His compositions have been performed around the world by orchestras such as the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and the Ukraine National Orchestra in Kiev.
Saxophonist Lynn Baker is an active saxophone performer and clinician, performing with his own Lynn Baker Quartet, the telematic duo Digital Void, The Bottesini Project, and the beats-electronic-free improvisation trio Gemstone Debris. He is a Conn-Selmer Artist Clinician and has made appearances at colleges, universities, high schools, and festivals, which have taken him across North America, Europe, and to Asia. He is an Origin Records recording artist with Azure Intention released in 2010 and LectroCoustic in 2013.
Lynn is an award-winning composer, performer, and educator winning the 1995 COVisions Award for Jazz Composition, the 1987 Westside Composer Award (Minneapolis, MN), the 1980 Ruth Loraine Close award in performance from the University of Oregon, and the 2005 Downbeat Magazine award for Outstanding Achievement in Jazz Education – College Level. The University of Denver awarded Lynn their prestigious University Lecturer award 2019-20. Lynn’s compositions are published by UNC Jazz Press and Malcor Music Publishing. Lynn is a Recording Academy/Grammy-nominated educator and the former Director of the Jazz Studies and Commercial Music Program at the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver, where he taught Jazz and Improvised Music. Lynn holds degrees from the University of Oregon and Western Oregon University and has also studied at Mt Hood Community College with Larry McVeigh and at Indiana University with David Baker, Dominic Spera and Eugene Rousseau. Before coming to Denver in 1993 Lynn taught at Indiana University, Carleton College, and universities in Oregon.
As the son of a music professor, drummer/percussionist Don Elkington learned early how to bring more to music than just a beat. His musicianship and versatility make him one of the most sought-after musicians in the area. He’s called upon to play in a wide variety of styles; from jazz and classical ensembles to folk, rock, funk, tango, world, pop and R&B. Whether he's playing Ellington, Bacharach, Earth Wind & Fire, Tool, Mingus, Jobim, Miles, Steely Dan, Tower Of Power, ZZ Top, Gershwin... you always know his style, feel, and groove.
Cellist Kathryn Brunhaver currently lives in Eugene, OR where she is a member of the Eugene Symphony. She has appeared as a guest artist with Chamber Music Amici, microphilharmonic, the Elsewhere Ensemble, Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, Columbia River Chamber Music Festival, Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival, Astoria Music Festival Orchestra, and as Principal Cello with Orchestra NEXT, among others. She completed a Doctorate in Cello Performance at the University of Oregon in 2017 and was named Outstanding Graduate Performer. Kathryn enjoys exploring innovative ways of playing the cello and has earned a reputation for specializing in new music, which has included premiering works for solo vocalizing cellist, as well as composing works for herself. This interest in new music extends across genres and has led her to join two regionally-acclaimed bands—Satori Bob and halie and the moon. She also performs as a solo singer-songwriter under the name Queen of Cups. Kathryn holds a Master’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Bachelor's degree from the Peabody Institute, where she was the recipient of the Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Orchestral Scholarship and the prestigious Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award.
When she’s not busy traveling throughout Europe, pianist Andria Martin teaches music at Ridgeview Elementary School in Springfield, performs in the Gerry Rempel Trio, and plots her family’s next trip. Andria has performed with Bobby Shew, Dick Oatts, Hubert Laws and George Colligan.
Flutist Jim Olsen has been a professional composer/arranger and performer on flute for over 40 years. His jazz compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by trumpeters Bobby Shew and Jim Rotondi, saxophonist Dick Oatts, flutist Hubert Laws, pianist Michael Weiss, the Eastman School of Music, Kansas University, University of Denver, Indiana University and Oregon jazz ensembles.
His extensive catalog of non-jazz compositions includes several highly acclaimed works for percussion ensemble, concertos for saxophone and trumpet, a wide variety of chamber pieces and the score for "Exit Dying," a made-for-television movie. Olsen has released four CDs of his original music; When Things Changed (2020), The Great Plains (2016, with pianist John Harmon), We See Stars (2014) and Fragments (1996).
In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Olsen is the music director emeritus for the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra, a Eugene-based big band. During his 15 year tenure he conducted for and performed with such notable artists as pianists Michael Weiss and Kenny Drew, Jr., vocalist Darmon Meader, drummer Jeff Hamilton and trombonists Michael Davis and Andy Martin, as well as Laws, Shew, Rotondi and Oatts.
Olsen currently teaches music composition and instrumental music at the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield.
