Hear samples of "Live at Earshot":
Slow & Steady Records released Montana-based trombonist-composer Naomi Moon Siegel’s sophomore album, Live at Earshot, which features reimagined live versions of songs from her 2016 debut album Shoebox View, as well as new works that explore the dichotomy of isolation and connection, inspired by Siegel’s recent move from Seattle, WA, where she lived for eight formative years, to the remote and pristine Missoula, MT.

Recorded live in 2017 at Seattle’s renowned Earshot Jazz Festival, Live at Earshot is very much a homecoming for Siegel. One year after her move to Missoula, the trombonist returned to Seattle, reconnecting with her closest collaborators to perform at Cornish College’s PONCHO Concert Hall, a room where Siegel experienced countless concerts and masterclasses that inspired her through the years – coming full circle.

Naomi Moon Siegel – “a trombonist and composer of great style and distinction” (Earshot Jazz) – is rooted in the Seattle music scene while keeping her home base in Missoula, MT. Fusing folk melodies with fantastical soundscapes and tight grooves, she is a model of creative self-expression inspired by the jazz tradition. In 2016 she released her critically acclaimed debut album Shoebox View – a 10 song travelogue featuring 13 musicians.

A recipient of an Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award, she is one half of the folk/punk/jazz duo Syrinx Effect, a member of Wayne Horvitz’s ensembles and an active part of the Seattle and Missoula music scenes, performing regionally and internationally. She has performed and collaborated with March Fourth Marching Band, Julian Priester, Allison Miller, Ahamefule J. Oluo, Stuart Dempster, Skerik, Jessica Lurie, Matthew Golombisky, Tata Dindin, and the Salaam Band, and Thione Diop. She is also a dedicated educator and the founder of Lakebottom Sound – a non-profit organization dedicated to nourishing the musical landscape of Missoula through concerts, workshops, and jam sessions.

Tale in the Telling is a trio featuring Douglas Detrick on trumpet, clawhammer banjo, and voice, Mike Gamble on electric guitar and Mike Lockwood on drums. They play songs from all over America's roots music tradition—blues, gospel, fiddle tunes, sea chanteys, and work songs—from a freewheeling jazz perspective as if jazz sorcerer Ornette Coleman played with folk singer, activist, and banjoist Pete Seeger.
