Mostly Other People Do the Killing formed in 2003 shortly after bassist/composer/bandleader Moppa Elliott moved to New York City from Ohio. The original quartet lineup of the band grew into a septet with the 2013 release of "Red Hot", and the group has existed in several different configurations ever since. 2017 saw the release of both a second septet album "Loafer's Hollow" as well as the first album by the piano trio version of the group, "Paint." All of Elliott’s compositions are named after small towns in his native Pennsylvania and explore the intersection of the past 100 years of the jazz tradition and modern improvisation.
