- David Morgenroth piano
- Chris Orsinger bass
- Jay Veach drums
New Eugene resident David Morgenroth partners with Oregon stalwart Chris Orsinger for their second appearance together at The Jazz Station. They are joined by up-and-coming drummer Jay Veach for an evening of original compositions and standards arranged to pay homage to the great jazz piano trio tradition. This concert’s repertoire explores nuanced ballads, hypnotic Latin Jazz, lively swing, and soulful blues in tribute to Bill Evans (“Funkallero”), McCoy Tyner (“There Is No Greater Love”), Ahmad Jamal (“Poinciana”), and Ray Brown/Gene Harris (“Li’l Darlin’”).
David Morgenroth “provides evidence of a style shaped by intelligence, clarity of conception, and even an elegance that shimmers,” writes Bill Donaldson of Jazz News. “He possesses both invention and originality of sound in abundance.” Morgenroth has performed across the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America with such luminaries as Micheal Brecker, Buddy DeFranco, Benny Golson, Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, Gary Peacock, Toots Thielemans, and Joe Williams. David has released four recordings under his own name, collaborating with notables like Chris Potter and Bob Sheppard (saxophones), Drew Gress and Chris Colangelo (bass), and Joe LaBarbera (drums).
Veteran bassist Chris Orsinger, one of the Jazz Station’s co-founders, is known for his harmonic voice while creating a foundation of groove from deep within his core. He has performed in numerous jazz, soul, and funk configurations, with a variety of local and regional musicians, and he also mentors young jazz musicians.
Jay Veach is a drummer, percussionist, singer, and educator born in South Korea. Whilst being an active member of the jazz scene, he also teaches private drum lessons and sectionals at local middle and high schools.
