Special Sneak-Preview of the New 2019 Dandy Warhols Album
Portland Jazz Singer-Songwriter, Marti Mendenhall, hosts Zia McCabe (The Dandy Warhols) on Marti’s Music Kitchen, “The Music and Food Podcast, Where Anything Can Happen.”
Recently featured on KPTV 12 More Good Day Oregon, Marti Mendenhall spent the last few months spinning on her love of great food and her expertise in music into a highly popular podcast of over 1100 followers and an average of 5,500 plays per episode. Guests cook, discuss their passion for food, and talk about their connection to music. Mendenhall’s podcast format includes all genres of music, performances, and sometimes offers a glimpse into the real lives of the chefs, foodies and musicians. Recent guests, The Red Bird Band, played two selections from their recently released album live on the show and cooked Frangelico Challah Bread French Toast.
“Zia was the perfect guest,” says Mendenhall. “She cooks with food from her own garden and is working on the ‘Whole 30’ way of eating. She also has a compelling story to share.”
With the January 2019 release of their 10th Studio Album, “Why You So Crazy,” The Dandy Warhols will celebrate their 25th Anniversary as a highly popular touring band. In a business where this kind of longevity is rare, the band had to figure out how to combat the potential burn-out of touring, and learn to balance music with the stability of their “normal” lives.
“That’s how I started feeling about music. I want to play music, not work music,” says McCabe.
Zia is a great example of the work-play balance. She has managed to dovetail the nightlife of a working musician and DJ, with her highly successful venture as “A To Zia Real Estate,” in Portland, Oregon.
“By working my job, I get to play more music and not be worried about whether it’s going to pay my bills,” continues Zia. “But ultimately it’s more rewarding. We’re much more of a well-oiled machine now.”
This podcast episode will feature a clip from the upcoming Dandy Warhols album. The track, called “Highlife,” is a song that Zia wrote for her country band, Brush Prairie, and she talks about how she was able to translate the piece into something that would also appeal to The Dandy Warhols fan-base. Marti and Zia cook up “Can’t Go Wrong Crockpot Chili,” and talk about everything from dating, gardening and singing, to what it takes to sell a house.
