Marcelo Murillo and Friends Swing Collective - One Set Wednesday at the Jazz Station in Eugene OR

Marcelo's One Set: With influences stemming from Art Blakey to Roy Hargrove to Samara Joy, tonight features some of his favorite artists.

  • Marcelo Murillo drumset
  • Robert Lasilla bass
  • Robert Bohall piano
  • Will Glausi alto sax
  • Julian Borkowski trumpet and flugelhorn

Marcelo was playing drum set before he could even reach all the pedals, drums, and cymbals, and after being gifted his first drum set at 3 years old, it was set in stone he would pursue a life and career in music. In his early years, his parents influenced much of his taste in music and how his taste has influenced his playing. From classic rock to old school hip hop to Afro Cuban to jazz, the abundance of music and love for the art was limitless for the young musician. Marcelo first began playing jazz in middle school and began more serious endeavors in the genre in high school, earning a spot in honor groups such as the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Jazz Band, and playing and attending a masterclass with percussionist Alex Acuña. Marcelo would soon thereafter attend the University of Oregon, studying for a bachelor of arts in Jazz Performance with a Jazz Percussion emphasis. Marcelo's goals in his music are to convey clarity, learn from others, and reflect the times. After graduation, Marcelo plans to return home to Long Beach, California to continue pursuing a life of music and artistic expression.
