FJF delivers a sound Jayson refers to as "jazz, groove and attitude". The line-up includes Tipp and top instrumentalists from the Portland area including Kenny Franklin on bass, Adam Carlson on drums, and Jack Radsliff on guitar with horn players David Evans (sax) and John Moak (trombone). The two horn line-up keep the soul jazz sound made famous by The Crusaders alive. Funk Jazz Formation plays grooving, lively and danceable classic and modern funk jazz, jazz interpretations of classic soul, and original compositions derived from the genre.
