Washington flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny will host visiting artists, Arizona vocalist Holly Pyle and Michigan bassist Tom Knific, in a NW concert tour August 2-12, 2018.

The special performance series in Washington and Oregon will showcase Jazz From The Silver Screen, a fresh spin on favorite movie themes from the 1950s to the present day, including music from An Affair To Remember (1957), Black Orpheus (1959),Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), Days of Wine And Roses (1962), The Sandpiper (1965), The Godfather (1972), The Long Goodbye(1973), Chinatown (1974), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Blade Runner (1982), Round Midnight (1986) and Manchester By The Sea (2016).

Holly Pyle is lauded by the Phoenix New Times for her “soulfully graceful, liquid-like voice,” while All About Jazz praises Tom Knificas “one of the most respected bassists and jazz educators on the scene today.”

In addition to Matheny, Pyle and Knific, the concerts will features some of the NW region’s leading musicians, including guitarist Milo Petersen, pianists Bill Anschell and Dan Gaynor, and drummers Mark Ivester, Michael Raynor and Greg Williamson.

Winner of “Northwest Instrumentalist of the Year” honors in the recent Seattle Golden Ear Awards, American flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music).An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dmitri Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered a loyal international following, releasing eleven critically acclaimed CDs, touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.The San Francisco Chronicle calls Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”
