Voted “NW Instrumentalist of the Year” in the Seattle Earshot Jazz Awards, flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny will appear Saturday, July 27 at The 1905 in Portland.

Renowned for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique, Dmitri Matheny has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music). An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dmitri Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered a loyal international following, releasing eleven critically acclaimed CDs, touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.The San Francisco Chronicle calls Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”

Matheny will lead an all-star band of Portland jazz talent, including Matthew Tabor keyboard, Eric Gruber bass and Tyson Stubelek drums.

The 1905 is one of Portland’s favorite venues, a modern hangout offering artisan pizza, craft cocktails and live jazz music in an intimate space.
