"Wynton Marsalis’ ‘Crescent City Christmas Card’ has been a holiday staple for me since adolescence, long before I actually moved to New Orleans. I wish I could remember who gave it to me, all I know is that I got the CD as a teenager and was instantly taken with the unique arrangements. Here were holiday classics played in ways I had never imagined. Lush, brooding, festive and jarring, Wynton’s orchestrations reject the commercially simplistic “holiday cheer”, calling instead upon a multitude of complex emotions. Surely, this is a more honest representation of the human spirit during the Holiday Season? Cyrus Nabipoor is a trumpeter, composer, arranger and educator. A distinctive voice both on the horn and in his songwriting, Cyrus’ singular sound has garnered him international acclaim. He has been a featured festival artist at PDX Jazz, Cathedral Park, Montavilla Jazz, New Orleans French Quarter, and Chicago Instigation. To date, he has released 2 albums under his own name, and collaborated on numerous more. Born and raised in Portland OR, Cyrus began his studies with Derek Sims & Alan Jones. He holds a B.M. from Loyola University New Orleans, where he graduated magna cum laude and was awarded outstanding undergraduate in both Jazz and Brass. In 2015, Cyrus was awarded the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Scholarship. Cyrus is endorsed by Thane Trumpets.
"To present this ambitious music, I’ve assembled a stellar lineup of Portland’s finest. The music calls for a nine-piece group, and I am fortunate to have an embarrassment of riches from which to choose. If you want a festive celebration of the highest musicianship Portland’s jazz scene has to offer, look no further." - Cyrus

Soul’d Out Productions (SOP) was founded in the Pacific NW in 2008 in order to bring a diversity in programming and cultural curation that was sorely lacking. Additionally, SOP has produced thousands of shows and events from LA to Vancouver BC, from Washington DC to NYC and founded the Jazz Fest by Nite series in New Orleans that ran from 2009 – 2019. As producer of the Soul’d Out Festival for 10 years and operator of several successful venues in Portland, SOP has helped evolve the NW musical landscape by changing who gets a ‘seat at the table’ in terms of community building and engagement through the arts.
