Christopher Brown Quartet plays the 1905
Two Shows - 6:30p and 8:30p
Christopher Brown welcomes his college professor, Dr. Lewis Porter to The 1905 stage. Dr. Porter is a New York-based pianist, educator, author, has performed across the USA and Europe and was nominated for a Grammy in 1995. His latest album is Transcendent with Ray Suhy, Brad Jones and Rudy Royston, on Sunnyside Records. He appears on 37 other albums with Dave Liebman, Marc Ribot, Gary Bartz, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tia Fuller and many others. Critics write that his music makes “a beautifully creative whole" and that he is “a first-rate pianist.” Holding a Ph.D. in musicology, he is well-known as an educator and author, most notably of a celebrated book on Coltrane. On this special night, at the beginning of each show, Dr. Porter, with the help of Chris, will talk and take questions about Trane and Monk and jazz--everything you "wanted to know but were afraid to ask."
