Charlene Hansen sings the Jazz Station - Eugene

Vocal and upright bass duo Charlene and her Champagne Bruts bring a retro-sophisticated, classic cocktail evening of jazz and American Standards

  • Charlene Hansen vocals
  • Marty Main upright bass

Charlene’s voice has been described as a beckoning invitation. Rich and sultry, this is a voice that is not naïve in ways of love, but certainly not jaded. There is an earnestness and a welcoming quality to Charlene’s approach, bringing a longing for sweetness and pleasures of companionship. Marty’s approach to the upright bass allows for a focus on the heart and core of each song, with rich warm tones that complement the vocals. Their songbook is a musical study of the countless facets of love, delivered with a knowing, retro-sophisticated cocktail vibe. Start with songs Charlene’s mother loved and would sing with her child throughout the house every day. Songs from Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Roger Miller, Julie London. Add in Grandpa’s record collection of Rosemary Clooney. Some perhaps not the most appropriate songs for a 5-year-old to sing but this early music education set the stage for a lifelong study of and passion for singing. Bring in a love of Sinatra, Bennett, Darin for songs from the Great American Songbook. Dive back into the past for great jazz standards made famous by Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Billy Strayhorn. Swing towards more modern day with songs from the likes of Tom Waits, Randy Newman.
