Many of Portland’s top blues and jazz musicians will perform at an all-star fundraiser for their beloved fellow musician Glenn Holstrom and his wife Lynn.  Glenn, the ultimate “musician’s musician” who played and/or arranged the music of dozens of popular NW artists, has been dealing with mounting bills as he’s fought terminal cancer.
King Louie & LaRhonda Steele (Louis Pain, LaRhonda Steele, Renato Caranto, Edwin Coleman III, and Peter Dammann), who have a 1st Wednesday residency at No Vacancy, will perform an opening set.  The remainder of the evening will feature special guest artists including Mel Brown, Bobby Torres,  Norman Sylvester, Marilyn Keller, Margaret Linn, Dan Balmer, George Mitchell, Larry Pindar, members of Soul Vaccination, and many, many more.
Tickets to the benefit, priced at $10 for general admission and $15 for table seating, are available at Eventbrite, with 100% of sale proceeds going to the  Glenn Holstrom Memorial Fund at U.S. Bank.
Oregon native Glenn Holstrom has been playing professionally since 1969.  However, he has worked intermittently since his cancer diagnosis in May 2011, and he’s been unable to work at all since this May due to the progression of his illness.
Holstrom may not be a household name, but he has made a huge contribution to music in the Northwest and beyond.  As legendary NW bluesman Lloyd Jones wrote, “All Portland musicians know what a genius piano player, organ player, arranger extraordinaire, and treasured friend the great ‘G-Man’ is, but many of you fans may not.  Glenn has played & arranged the music of Tom Grant, Lloyd Jones, Curtis Salgado, Ellen White, Bobby Torres, Dan Balmer, Paul deLay, Linda Hornbuckle, and dozens of others.  Truly the ‘go-to- guy’ for all of us musicians.  So many of us have said, “’you should ask Glenn, he'll know what to do.’  Yeah, baby...he's the man!”
