Originally from Portland, and with yearslong detours around the Pacific Northwest, singer/songwriter Ben Estrada has been recording and releasing music as a solo effort since 2020. His forthcoming EP marks the first time Estrada has brought in outside collaborators- Estrada's otherworldly arrangements have gone from largely electronic to more expansive, organic instrumentals. Software synths and filtered 808 loops have been swapped out for saxophone and drumset. Upon relocating to Eugene, Estrada reconnected with keyboardist Delos Erickson, a longtime friend who assisted in assembling a group of seasoned local players to contribute to Estrada's solo compositions. Relationships are a recurring lyrical theme for Estrada, but not in the cliched sense that frequently populates top 40 radio. Estrada writes about loss, unhealthy partnerships, and how distance can affect friendships; A frequent subject is how absence and presence impact our relationships with loved ones. Offering unique thematic perspectives, and featuring a group of deft and experienced musicians, BendreTheGiant is poised to expand their audience with their forthcoming EP.
