“So many beloved songs are featured in Hollywood scores and soundtracks,” Matheny says, “and it makes sense, because the art forms of jazz and film, both about 100 years old, grew up together.” Matheny and friends will showcase jazz renditions of familiar favorites from An Affair To Remember, Blade Runner, Casablanca, Chinatown, Taxi Driver, The Godfather, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Mo Better Blues, Young Frankenstein, Star Wars, Barbie, and more. “An all-star jazz band featuring some of the most accomplished musicians in the western United States” (All About Jazz), the DMITRI MATHENY GROUP is renowned for their crowd-pleasing performances of lyrical originals and timeless classics. American flugelhornist DMITRI MATHENY has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music). An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dmitri Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal international following, releasing twelve CDs and touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The San Francisco Chronicle calls Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”
Late Show - Mike Dillon & Punkadelick - 10:30p to 11:30
Mike Dillon & Punkadelick makes its recorded debut with Inflorescence, an album of heady, instrumentalrock highlighting a band deep in the throes of creative freedom, road testedand wild. Consisting of 10 tracks in 42-minutes, it’s an expansive, focused, and fearless collection, representing a world where Duke Ellington and Augustus Pablo rub shoulders with crate-digger exotica, the freak-funk of Parliament and the ‘anything fits’ outsider ethos of acid-fried punks like The Meat Puppets. A trio featuring Mike Dillon (RickiLee Jones, Ani DiFranco, Les Claypool) on vibraphone, marimba, Prophet6, congas, and bongos, Brian Haas (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey) onFender Rhodes, piano, bass Moog and melodica and Nikki Glaspie (Beyonce,Nth Power) on drums, cymbals and vocals, Punkadelick is the unifiedvision of six hands creating a world that often sounds like the work of anensemble three times the size.

Soul’d Out Productions (SOP) was founded in the Pacific NW in 2008 in order to bring a diversity in programming and cultural curation that was sorely lacking. Additionally, SOP has produced thousands of shows and events from LA to Vancouver BC, from Washington DC to NYC and founded the Jazz Fest by Nite series in New Orleans that ran from 2009 – 2019. As producer of the Soul’d Out Festival for 10 years and operator of several successful venues in Portland, SOP has helped evolve the NW musical landscape by changing who gets a ‘seat at the table’ in terms of community building and engagement through the arts.
