Two masters of the rhythm section take center stage as pianist Charlie Brown III and bassist Garrett Baxter celebrate the timeless music of Duke Ellington and Ray Brown through selections from the legendary album This One’s for Blanton. Recorded in 1972 as an intimate piano-and-bass duet, the album paid tribute to pioneering bassist Jimmy Blanton, whose groundbreaking work with Ellington forever changed the role of the bass in jazz.
Expect beloved Ellington melodies, spontaneous interplay, and a rare opportunity to hear two of Portland’s finest jazz musicians explore one of jazz history’s most celebrated duo recordings.
