Genre Lines Blur as Three Portland Sonic Explorers Unite
Drummer Machado Mijiga leads a trio into uncharted territory, weaving original compositions that draw from contemporary classical, folk, grunge, and electronic influences — a night for listeners who love music that refuses to sit still.
A New England Conservatory graduate, Mike Gamble has spent over two decades pushing the boundaries of creative jazz, experimental rock, and improvised music across North America and Europe, performing at festivals like SXSW, NYC Winter Jazzfest, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. He's collaborated with the likes of Nels Cline, Wayne Horvitz, and Laura Veirs, recorded on more than 50 albums, and currently serves as Artistic Director of Portland's Creative Music Guild.
Bassist Andrew Jones brings a genre-defying resume of his own, having toured internationally with Julia Holter and Barbez while carving out a singular niche in Portland's experimental scene — moving effortlessly between jazz clubs, Balkan folk nights, and avant-garde theater.
Rounding out the group is Machado Mijiga, a Portland-born multi-instrumentalist whose credits span an astonishing range — from touring with GRAMMY-winning Portugal. The Man to sharing stages with Esperanza Spalding, Ghost Note, and Benny Golson. A prolific composer and producer with dozens of self-produced releases, Mijiga has performed everywhere from Red Rocks to Radio City Music Hall.
Together, this trio promises a genuinely unpredictable evening — virtuosic, boundary-pushing, and utterly unique.
